Sometimes its the business of life, sometimes its the season of the year, sometimes its the road-blocks and obstacles that we put in our own way ~ but there are times when its hard to be filled with ‘fabulocity’ and feeling absolutely fabulous. It happens to all of us!
However, there is a way to get yourself out of the doldroms and feeling happy and healthy again. You have to ‘change your mind’. That really is the secret of how to make the change from dreary to fabulous. But, the question that arises now, is how? How do you change your mind?
One old adage that holds true is ‘fake it ’til you make it’. Clients and students have been debating this with me over the years, but once they get it…life takes off! Here’s how:
Let’s say that you woke up this morning worrying about not having enough money in the bank, you are feeling overweight and underappreciated. Ever have one of those days? The more you think about your bad feelings, the bigger they grow. By lunch time you’ve managed to find a way to spend even more money, made bad choices around your eating habits and been yelled at by the boss, or your spouse, or the kids! So, what if instead of focussing on what makes you miserable, you turn it around and think about the good things in your life. I start with ‘I am grateful for…’ and then I fill in the blanks, so it goes something like this:
- breath (do you know how many people have difficulty even breathing?)
- a healthy body (yes, I’m healthy…of course I’m not perfect, but I’m healthy and I can walk, dance, run and play)
- my loved ones (hubby, kids, grandchild, brother, friends, puppy) this reminds me I’m loved and cherished and I have people in my life that I love and cherish and stops the ‘unappreciated’ chatter!
- my clients and students (and by getting more in my life I’ll serve more people, spread more love, share and teach more healing skills, connect with more fabulous people…and make more money!)
If all this doesn’t have you skipping and hopping with fabulous feelings again, try going deeper. The fact that you are able to read this on your computer makes you wealthy ~ in fact, in the top 8% of the world population! That’s not too shabby! And my all time favorite ~ go do some volunteer work with those less fortunate. A few hours of walking in someone else’s shoes really does turn things around. The holiday season can be particularly hard for many of us, with our expectations of ourselves being so high. Take a time out to see through the eyes of others. One thing I’ve enjoyed is going to a local hospital and singing Christmas carols. My brother works in a soup kitchen feeding the homeless. A friend goes to the hospital to cuddle preemie babies born to drug-addicted mothers, while another volunteers driving people to medical appointments so they don’t have to use public transport while they are ill. What can you do to help?
And while doing all this, put a smile on your face, lift your chin high and simply pretend all is well. The next thing you know ~ it will be! Fake it ’til you make involves making changes in the way you think so pretend to feel fabulous while making the changes to become fabulous. Fake it ’til you make it.
